Who’s Legacy

He Had the Money. He Wanted a Life.

He played baseball at Stanford. He built a finance career. Then he asked what real wealth means.

Sahil Bloom had the kind of career many people dream about: a top university, a finance job and a growing bank account.

But one day he did some simple math. Living far from his parents, he realised he might only see them a small number of times before they died.

That thought changed his life, and inspired millions of people online.

Stanford and baseball

Sahil played baseball for Stanford University from 2009 to 2013. He earned a degree in economics and sociology, then a master's in public policy.

A finance career

After Stanford, Sahil worked in finance and investing. He was successful by traditional measures, but felt something was missing.

Writing online

Sahil started writing threads on Twitter explaining finance, business and life lessons in simple terms. People loved them.

He launched a newsletter, The Curiosity Chronicle, which grew to hundreds of thousands of readers. He also started SRB Ventures to invest in startups.

His story about seeing his parents only a limited number of times more went viral, and pushed him to move closer to family.

The 5 Types of Wealth

In 2025, Sahil published The 5 Types of Wealth, which became a New York Times bestseller. It says a great life needs five kinds of wealth: time, social, mental, physical and financial.

Where he is now

Today, Sahil Bloom writes, speaks and invests, helping people rethink what it means to be rich.

Why the story matters

Sahil Bloom's story shows that success is more than money.

For young builders, the lesson is simple. Build wealth, but also build time, relationships, health and peace of mind.

He did not quit ambition. He widened it.
