At 18, Steven Bartlett went to one university lecture, and never went back.
Friends and family worried. But within a few years he had co-founded a social media marketing company worth hundreds of millions, and later built one of the world's most popular podcasts.
Botswana to Plymouth
Steven Bartlett was born in 1992 in Gaborone, Botswana. When he was two, his family moved to Plymouth, England.
He has said he often felt like an outsider growing up, and did not fit the school system well.
Social Chain
Steven dropped out of Manchester Metropolitan University and threw himself into business.
In 2014, at 21, he co-founded Social Chain, a marketing agency built on social media pages with huge audiences. Brands paid to reach young people through them. Social Chain grew fast and later became part of a publicly listed company in Germany.
Steven left Social Chain in 2020.
The Diary of a CEO
In 2017, Steven started a podcast called The Diary of a CEO. At first it was a simple audio diary. It grew into long, deep interviews with famous guests about business, health and life, and became one of the most popular podcasts in the world.
In 2022, he joined BBC's Dragons' Den as its youngest ever investor.
Flight Story and beyond
Steven founded Flight Story, a marketing company, and Flight Fund, which invests in startups. His creator holding company reached a reported $425 million valuation. In September 2026, he launched OBSN, a joint venture with Authentic Brands to build creator led media companies.

Today, Steven Bartlett hosts The Diary of a CEO and runs his media and investment businesses.
